Accident Reduction! How to save labor and reduce accidents in manual cargo handling operations?

Cargo handling operations that lengthen the time drivers are tied up

The main cause of logistics inefficiencies and heavy labor is “cargo handling operations. Cargo handling operations refer to the entire process of handling cargo in the logistics process. Cargo handling operations are a series of tasks that begin with unloading cargo from trucks and continue until it is discharged from the warehouse.

According to data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2015, truck drivers spend an average of 13.5 hours per trip (if they have a truck on hand), of which about 33%, or 4.5 hours, are spent on “handling” and “cargo handling.

Cargo handling operations are rife with accidents resulting in death and injury, and safety assurance is an urgent priority.

Cargo handling is not only a challenge because of its long hours and heavy workload. It is also extremely dangerous work with a high rate of accidents. According to the Japan Industrial Accident Prevention Association, more than 13% of all industrial fatalities and injuries occur in the overland freight forwarding industry. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, approximately 70% of all occupational accidents in the overland freight forwarding business occur during cargo handling operations.

Recently, loading and unloading of bulk cargo into and out of containers is also considered dangerous from the standpoint of preventing the spread of the new coronavirus, because the work is “dense” (source: “Explanation of Cargo Handling Safety Guidelines” by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare). How to save labor in cargo handling - "Slit Container," a material handling system for efficient cargo handling

Slit Container” is a new material handling system that saves labor and protects the safety of drivers.

Slit Container is a container bag made of membrane material that allows forklifts to move, load, and unload cargo without using pallets. The special, patent-pending design allows for movement, storage, and transshipment without touching the cargo inside, and it can be folded compactly for immediate retrieval after use.
