Membrane structure that transforms the rooftop of a shopping mall into a playground for children
2019.07.22
Taiyo Kogyo has recently completed multiple membrane structures to a new shopping mall in Jakarta. Located in eastern Jakarta, AEON Mall Jakarta Carden City was completed as part of the new Jakarta Garden City (JGC) and includes new housing, retail, public facilities, and infrastructure within the City. The shopping mall houses approximately 230 specialty stores and employs 3,000 people. Approximately 3,250,000 people live within a 20-minute drive of the mall. Taiyo Kogyo was contracted to engineer, fabricate, and install several canopies, shelters, and fluffy domes on the roof of the shopping mall. The pneumatic playground equipment, “Fluffy Dome,” is a trampoline made of inflated membrane material, and this was the first case in Southeast Asia where it was used. Since its completion, it has quickly become a popular playground equipment for children, and the rooftop area is visited by many users every day. PTFE and PVC materials were used to cover a total area of 640 square meters with a canopy, shelter, and fluffy dome. The pure white membrane material creates a bright and beautiful impression while the curved shape brightens the family-friendly rooftop area. In addition to aesthetics, the tension membrane structure also serves to protect users from the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun while providing a bright space with its translucent properties. As a leading manufacturer of membrane structures, Taiyo Kogyo and the MakMax Group intend to expand the use of functional membrane structures into new markets and regions, including the Fluffy Dome, a new application of the existing shelter structure.
