(Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a company involved in large-scale membrane surface structures (tent structures), civil engineering and logistics materials, has been awarded a contract to construct an exchange building for “Art & Technology Village Kyoto,” an open innovation center combining art and technology newly established in Kyoto Prefecture. (Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogo-ku, Osaka; President: Yuki Nomura) has been awarded a contract for the construction of an exchange building for “Art & Technology Village Kyoto” (to be operational from November 2023, operated by Kyoto Sangyo 21 Foundation), a new open innovation center combining art and technology in Kyoto Prefecture.
Versatile open innovation center
The exchange building of “Art & Technology Village Kyoto” consists of an exchange zone and a pitch zone centering on the entrance. It consists of a co-working room ideal for meetings intended for multipurpose use, meetings for regular meeting use, and for processing focused work, as well as a studio with distribution capabilities. At the entrance is a space ideal for seminars, pitch meetings, and other small-scale events, with a membrane roof that allows sunlight to penetrate and create a bright event space. It provides gentle natural light suitable for an open innovation center where people from all walks of life gather.
Completed in only 6 months with high quality and environmental impact
The AC building completed this time is a “Flex House,” a membrane-structured building that achieves shorter construction period and lower cost by using our proprietary membrane structure. Based on our long-standing technology and know-how in membrane construction, we have realized high quality and shortened construction period by manufacturing the components at our own factory, and this facility was completed in only 6 months from the start of construction. Facilities built with membrane structures are lightweight and use less steel, which greatly reduces the environmental impact of transportation, compared to conventional buildings that use more metal and concrete.
The Art & Technology Village Kyoto is a public-private open innovation facility that utilizes a former private factory site. With a view to dismantling the building after a certain period of use, the “flex house,” which can be dismantled in a short period of time and has a low environmental impact, is the most suitable building for this facility.
