Unique training programs unique to Membrane Shop

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation

(Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura; hereafter “Taiyo Kogyo”), a company that manufactures large membrane surface structures (tent structures) and civil engineering and logistics materials, conducted a training program for 17 new employees who joined the company on April 1, 2012. The program included a “Membrane Roofing Experience” and “Making Original Bags from Scrap Wood. In addition, the entire Taiyo Group, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, joined forces with TSP Taiyo Corporation (headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo; President: Kago Ikezawa; hereinafter “TSP Taiyo”), an event consulting company, and Actio Corporation (headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo; President: Fumitaka Awano; hereinafter “Actio”), an event and facility management company, as the three members of the group: (headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo; Fumitaka Awano, President; hereinafter referred to as “Actio”), an event and facility management company, held a joint induction ceremony and welcome event with the aim of strengthening ties among the three group companies.

Taiyo Kogyo has been pursuing the “infinite possibilities of membranes” as a leading company of large membrane surface structures. In FY2023, 17 new graduates (13 males and 4 females) were hired. In addition to learning management skills, business skills, and the operations of each business unit, they will not only gain knowledge, but also experience the infinite possibilities and characteristics of membranes while forming skills as employees of a “membrane shop.

After completing two months of training, the new employees will be assigned and begin work on June 5.

Tent fabric scraps from the production process are usually discarded. We conducted a training session on the production of “original bags” as a recycled product using these scraps. In addition to thinking about the environment by using discarded scrap materials, participants experienced the “infinite possibilities of membranes” by creating another form from the original use. This training is designed to cultivate flexible thinking and bold action as employees of “Membrane Shop,” and to learn the spirit of challenging new membrane technologies that will change the world. Employees who participated in the training had the opportunity to learn about the characteristics and applications of membrane materials through unfamiliar tasks such as designing, cutting, and sewing.

With the aim of promoting understanding of our products and learning team building, we conducted a hands-on training program for membrane fabrication at the Hirakata Plant. The membrane is made in strips of approximately 2 meters in length, which are then thermally welded together to form a single large sheet over 10 meters in width. The participants made their own design plans for the eaves to be installed in front of the entrance of an office building. While experiencing the difficulties of welding and sewing for the first time, they experience our technical capabilities to finish the product in the shape as designed. In order to finish one product within a limited time, each of the 17 members must have a role and act as a team. Each person in charge reported the areas that needed to be corrected during the work and shared their revisions as they worked together to produce the product. All the new employees worked together to create a single product over the course of three days.

The three companies of the Taiyo Group are working together to create new businesses through cross-group social contribution activities and human resource exchange, aiming to make further progress by continuing to pursue the possibilities of membranes, spaces, and experiences while enhancing synergy with each other. In FY2023, the three companies jointly held an initiation ceremony and a welcome event for new employees. The event provided an opportunity for personnel from each company to connect with each other in their first year across the group, including an exchange of business cards.

It has already been two months since I joined Taiyo Kogyo. During this training period, I have learned the basics of being a member of society and an employee of Taiyo Kogyo. During this time, I have come into contact with a wide range of Taiyo Kogyo’s products, and every day I am amazed at the possibilities that the material of membranes holds, and I have high expectations for the work I will be doing. As an employee involved in sales, I will continue to study so that I can propose products that meet the needs of our customers with sincerity and honesty. All of the new employees will continue to work hard to expand the possibilities of membranes for the next 100 years, while inheriting the traditions and trust that Taiyo Kogyo has built up over the past 100 years.
