Developed new type of “medical and visiting” protective clothing

(Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Hidefumi Araki), a “membrane manufacturer” handling large membrane surface structures (tent structures) and other products, has developed “MEDICON” (patent pending), a new type of protective suit that takes in fresh air and provides comfort not found in conventional suits. The new suits are designed to be used as “suits to protect medical personnel” fighting against the new coronavirus and “suits for visitors visiting patients and residents” in hospitals and welfare facilities, and have been introduced on a trial basis.

MEDICON,” which is currently being developed for practical use, is protective clothing with completely new functions, a project that began in April of this year.　We are convinced that a “personal space” that protects people can deliver safety and security amid the drastic changes in society caused by the new coronavirus. We have developed this product as protective clothing against the new coronavirus, reflecting the opinions of medical experts and the medical frontlines.

Medical treatment for the new coronavirus, which requires full body protection, is a harsh environment of heat and suffocation due to poor ventilation and heat buildup, even in protective clothing.

The “MEDICON” suit is designed to ensure comfort while being worn by constantly blowing fresh air into the suit from an air fan (with a built-in antibacterial sheet) attached to the back, while taking thorough measures to prevent droplet infection. The suit is designed to allow for safer and smoother undressing and undressing, and is also designed to reduce the burden on medical personnel. In addition, to ensure that this highly functional suit can be used continuously in the medical field for a long period of time, PVC-coated membrane material is used for the material, and a system for cleaning and maintenance after use has been prepared to realize protective clothing that can be used repeatedly.

Furthermore, in the development of “MEDICON,” not only for medical professionals, but also for patients and residents visiting hospitals and welfare facilities, where visits have been suspended for a long time due to the new coronavirus, we worked on a “visiting suit” for patients and residents. In addition to the functions of the suit for medical personnel, a HEPA filter is attached to the air outlet on the head to prevent secondary infection by preventing viral droplet nuclei from leaking into the hospital or facility, even if the visitor in the suit is virus positive.

We expect that this will connect the visitor and the patient, even for a short time, and that this will have a positive psychological impact on both parties, for example, by allowing them to meet face-to-face and “encourage” each other prior to surgery.

• Taiyo Kogyo Corporation has conducted a trial introduction of “MEDICON” with the cooperation of a company that provides support for hospital management and other services.　In the future, the company aims to “help healthcare professionals and their families” by verifying the effectiveness of the system and promoting the addition of valuations tailored to specific purposes.
  In addition, we have already decided to introduce the “visiting suit” on a trial basis at welfare facilities, and hope that it will help in considering an environment where people can be present at life’s milestones, such as the birth of a family member or end-of-life care.
