New concept, sheet wall to control building flooding from torrential rains

The ” DELTA PANEL,” developed and marketed by Taiyo Kogyo, is a flood prevention tool that guards the area where water enters with a strip of membrane material to control damage when flooding of buildings is expected due to a guerrilla downpour or other such event. Unlike conventional sandbags, there is no need to secure soil, fill the bags, or pile up the completed sandbags. This reduces installation time to about 10 minutes*1, one-tenth that of sandbags*2, and greatly reduces the workload in emergency situations.

The new ” DELTA PANEL ” is designed for stores such as convenience stores and residences where there is little difference in height between the interior floor and the ground. The sheet-like membrane material is structurally stabilized with aluminum frames, pipes, and mesh sheets to form a triangular cross section (patent pending), which resists the force of water from rising water. Furthermore, the panels (two types: 1 m length and 50 cm length) can be connected horizontally to accommodate wide openings and limit flood damage up to 50 cm in height.

The main membrane material is also made of synthetic resin, which is highly waterproof and strong enough to withstand large forces. In terms of processing, the main parts are welded together by melting the surfaces of the fabrics to achieve waterproof specifications, and the panel connecting parts are also made of double fasteners to enhance waterproofness.
It can also be folded compactly for storage in non-emergency situations.

The development of the “DELTA PANEL” began last July, reflecting the needs for the ” DELTA TUBE (Triangular Water Canister ),” which was also created as a flood prevention tool and has received high praise as a recommended product for firefighting and disaster prevention. The product is now available. The 5m length type is priced at 225,000 yen (excluding tax, without end sheet), and the company aims for mid-term (3 years) sales of 500 million yen.

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation intends to enhance its various flood prevention products, such as the ” Delta Panel,” in order to reduce the spread of damage from water-related disasters that have been occurring frequently in recent years, such as guerrilla torrential rains and large typhoons.

The portable special levee “(triangular water bag) Delta Tube ” is a long triangular bag made of highly waterproof membrane material. It is stretched and laid over the levee, and water is injected into it to prevent overtopping of water from the levee.
Developed as an alternative to conventional sandbags for flood prevention, it is lightweight, compact, and can be folded for storage and transportation, and can be set up quickly.

In 2013, the Fire Equipment and Safety Center of Japan recognized the product as one that can be effectively used in the field of firefighting and disaster prevention, and awarded it the “Firefighting and Disaster Prevention Product Recommendation”.
