Taiyo Kogyo Corporation
(Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Hidefumi Araki), a manufacturer of large tent structures and other products, has strengthened the scope of the ISO/IEC 170/25 laboratory accreditation that its Technical Research Institute had previously obtained in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s enhanced examination process for obtaining ministerial approval for designated building materials. The fourth test item, “Adhesion Strength of Coating Layer of Membrane Materials,” has been newly added to the scope of ISO/IEC17025. We are the first third-party testing laboratory in the world to have all the items.
ISO/IEC17025 is an international standard that specifies general requirements for competence to perform testing or calibration. It is a system whereby accreditation bodies certify, for each test method and standard field, that a laboratory has a sound management system to ensure the reliability of the results measured and tested in the laboratory and is competent to perform the tests.
In August 2010, our Technical Research Laboratory received ISO/IEC17025 accreditation from the Japan Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (JAB) for testing and inspection of organic and polymeric testing materials in mechanical and physical testing.
For membrane materials for membrane structures, the three existing items “unit mass, thickness test, and tensile test” and the new item “adhesion strength of coating layer” have been newly added.
This “coating layer adhesion strength” is “the strength at which the base fabric and coating layer are peeled off beforehand and then peeled off using a tensile tester.
The expanded scope of our laboratory accreditation will prove the reliability of our testing and inspection results externally, and the test reports issued by our laboratory will be more highly regarded internationally.
Taiyo Kogyo Corporation intends to make a significant contribution not only to new product development but also to quality improvement in a wide range of industries, including construction, civil engineering, and logistics, by improving the reliability of various tests on fibers, rubber, and plastics.
[Overview of ISO/IEC 17025
ISO/IEC 17025 is an international standard that specifies general requirements for competence to perform testing or calibration. It is a system in which accreditation bodies certify, for each test method and standard field, that a testing laboratory has a sound management system to ensure the reliability of measured results and is competent to perform testing. Our Technical Research Institute obtained this certification in August 2010, and the test reports issued by our testing laboratory are recognized both in Japan and internationally.
