Taiyo Kogyo Corporation (Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Hidefumi Araki), a “Membrane Ya” company that develops large tents, TM trusses, and solar power generation systems, has recently realized the first “sun room with see-through solar panels ” *1 for private homes.

The H residence, completed at the end of April this year in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, is the first private residence to use see-through solar panels, which allow sunlight to penetrate, on the roof of the sunroom connecting the balcony and the bedroom. This has enabled a highly functional sunroom in a private residence, with a top light that lets in sunlight and generates electricity, while also providing a heat shielding performance.
The see-through solar panels, used for the first time in the sunrooms of private residences, are thin-film solar cells with slits to allow light to pass through and provide a power generation function. Each panel measures 1200 mm x 998 mm, and the 12 panels make up a top light measuring 4320 mm (length) x 3750 mm (width). Transmitting 10% of sunlight (visible light), the panels create a glare-free space with soft light like a “komorebi,” eliminating the need for any daytime lighting. On the other hand, it also cuts more than 90% of the solar heat contained in sunlight, thus keeping you cool with its heat shielding effect. Furthermore, the cut solar energy is converted into electricity by the see-through solar panels and supplied to electrical appliances in the residence, with any surplus power purchased by the power company.
The see-through solar panels block 99% of UV rays, so there is no need to worry about getting sunburned even if you take a nap in the sunroom. In addition, the insulated double-glazing construction prevents condensation and provides heat insulation, and the laminated glass also ensures that even if the glass should break due to flying debris, no pieces will fall.

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation was the first in the world to commercialize see-through solar panels and began selling them in 1996, and has since then achieved a track record of approximately 200 installations in various public facilities and large commercial facilities.
The adoption of the solar panels in private residences was also due to the high evaluation of past adoption cases. In the future, we intend to contribute to the creation of comfortable and bright homes, not only in conventional public facilities but also in the general residential market as solar panels that combine energy conservation and energy creation.

*1: The first case as a private residence is based on our actual performance level.
