Completed relocation of the “Running Stadium,” which won an award from the Architectural Institute of Japan.

Taiyo Kogyo Corporation (Tokyo headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yumi Nomura), a company involved in the construction of large membrane structures (tent structures), civil engineering and logistics materials, completed the demolition and relocation of the Shin Toyosu Brillia Running Stadium (former name) in six months, as requested by Tokyo Sports Wellness Village Co. Ltd. to dismantle and relocate the Shin-Toyosu Brillia Running Stadium (former name), which was commissioned by Tokyo Sports Wellness Village Co. The relocated running stadium (new name), called “livedoor URBAN SPORTS PARK” (official name: Ariake Urban Sports Park), will open on October 12, 2012.

The relocated running stadium was completed in December 2016 as a training facility for sports for people with disabilities aiming to become Paralympians. It is the first large-scale use in Japan of ETFE film, a high-performance fluoropolymer membrane material that has been the focus of much attention as a new material, and its arch shape is composed of unitized Japanese larch laminated timber. The building system was awarded the Good Design Award (Japan Institute of Design Promotion) in 2017 for its realization of a building system that will help promote the use of wood construction in buildings with a deadline. It also received the 2019 Architectural Institute of Japan Award (Work) (Architectural Institute of Japan) for its beautiful joint detailing that also takes into account demolition (relocation) and the fact that the EFTE film membrane has been notified for general use.

The relocated facility aims to carry on the legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games and become a role model area for “sports wellness. The “Multipurpose Zone” where the running stadium will be relocated will include an outdoor athletic facility, exercise facilities, and food and beverage facilities such as cafes and restaurants. The “Games Legacy Zone” will include skateboarding facilities, an indoor bouldering building, and 3×3 basketball facilities that were actually used at international sports festivals held in Tokyo.

livedoor URBAN SPORTS PARK Ariake Urban Sports Park will be developed and operated by Tokyo Sports Wellness Village*, which was selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government under the “Law Concerning the Promotion of the Development of Public Facilities through the Use of Private Finance Initiatives (commonly known as the PFI Law)”.
